 How Is Everyone?
« Thread Started on Nov 6, 2009, 3:34pm »

I am curious to know about everybody's goings on. Tell us what you've been up to, new exciting experiences, jobs, children? (Chippa), marriage?

Crimes?

I'm genuinely interested to hear some fun stories.

Good to see you again former fearless leader! How's life with you? NBA calling on you yet?

As for me, I'm working quite a bit. Still doing the security thing, which can be an adventure at times. Kids? No! I have a cat and dog, though! Strangely enough they get along fine, so I guess that old saying "fight like cats and dogs" is irrelevant in this case! ;)

I guess the big news for me is I'm single again. The former better half and I decided to save our friendship, and ended the relationship. Actually we get along better now than we have in two years! Funny how that works out, isn't it?

Hey Chip sorry to hear you guys aren't together anymore... But as long as you're still both friends thats the main thing.

Hows it going Porter? What you been up to?

As for me? Working on a new album with the band, stressing out over the Mac which shat itself while backing up our recordings.. All good now. Keeping up with a teenage daughter and an adult son who do fight like cats and dogs when theyre together LOL... Just been on a weekend away on the Murray river camping and getting battered by being towed by speedboats... Gigs doing well, school is busy, health is good, Beachgirl keeps me on my toes... Life's good..

Ever notice how busy we always are and yet when you bump into someone at the mall and they ask whats up we say "not much?"

Beach

On your toes? Sounds kind of hot. From what I've experienced, I had it rough with my younger brother in high school (mortal enemies for a while), now at 23&22, we're best friends. Love to hear that you're doing some camping. In the past 3 years I've been back country camping, thrilling.

Nice to hear Chippa, keep that bench press up because I'm going to come cause trouble.

As for me, I'm a 7th grade Biology teacher as well as earning a section of 8th grade Earth Science. Which is sort of funny since I was a Biology and Chemistry major........but I know a thing or two about my geo mechanisms. I have a girlfriend of a couple years and thinking about the whole ring thing.

I'm actually looking to get out of Wisconsin here and go somewhere challenging next year, so I've been applying all over the place.......I'm in a very conservative town and I was recently involved in a whole "evolution is science, where is God" thing with parents taking it to the school board....so some people have taken poorly to me based on my stance in that political rhetoric, which is pretty immature. So I'd like to get a new start and stay out of it, no matter how hard it is.

Hope to see that new Lynne album soon.

You're teaching now? Dammit Billy, you're making me feel old! It seems like only yesterday that you were a wet-behind-the-ears high school kid! :P

As for getting out of town, that's a good idea. Sounds like you're stirring up the pot a little! Good man! ;D

Hey sorry to hear about the split, Chippa and Heather. But as long as you're not hating on each other, it's copacetic.

Hi Porter. It sounds like you're doing well, congratulations. I have six more months of college life, then I'm off into the big, cruel world! ;D

Howdy, Porter!

It's great to hear from you! Thank goodness you asked about all of us or I'd never have known about Chippa and Heather. I'm so sorry, by the way. Strange how we see each other here all the time and yet it takes a visit from you, Porter, for us all to catch up.

Life has slowed down quite a bit for me. My son moved out, my youngest is in college in Baltimore and my oldest daughter still lives at home but she's so busy working on her master's degree that I hardly see her. I seriously need to find a hobby, job or crime to interest me. ::)

Hello yes, it's awfully good of you to drop by, Mr Porter. We haven't really had the pleasure of speaking on a regular basis tho' I've been on here since Feb.'06..both times when I quit the board someone actually passed away within a day or two after (first onelove then Kelly G), so I am doomed to lurk here till all the bad mojo lifts off of me..(and I'm not sure if I am serious or not, unfortunately, having now learned of Chippa's split from Heather..arrgghh!!)...Regardless... I will say, generally, it does my heart good to hear you're not falling in line with crusty oldsters (who may or may not be actually "old" per se, if you get me). People hate when they can't manipulate you; it scares them. Don't let 'em fool ya. Ah, but I'm sure you don't need to be told anything. You sound like you have a lot going for you. You might find a college-type town more to your liking. Maybe right there in the heart of the country, or maybe not... The Southwest, Southeast and the Pacific Northwest regions are always on those Best Places To ___ (honeymoon, retire, "find yourself", etc). Pretty much leaves out NYC but you're not a waiter! so that's alright then LOL Try not to burn bridges. And remember the story about the man sitting at the gate of the large city and what he asked strangers about to enter after their long journey..
...if you're not sure which story I'm alluding to, I think Eloise might know the answer :)

Nope, I don't know the answer. You've stumped Eloise. Strangely enough, it's not the first time I've been stumped. ;D Please tell us the story.

Hi Eloise
I thought for sure I'd run across a really clear version of it somewhere, since corporate trainers still use the story..am working on it. Must be using inept keywords in my browser.

Oh, and in my last post, I said that about being 'doomed to lurk' ? well, the fact is, I have been a Jeff Lynne/ELO fan since their heyday, so there is really nothing 'technically' wrong with my being here..But I do like changing my name at the drop of a hat. After Evil and Sweet-Talking, the only female personas in Jeff's songs are dreams, if you look closely. "Auntie" I thought was ideal, as it was the working 'demo' title of "Ma Ma Ma Belle"..however, if you put Auntie -Belle together it might be mistaken for a reference to Antebellum (new country singers in the US) or maybe antebellum architecture. Bleehhh. That is to say, I like all kinds of architectural styles (Art Deco being my favorite at the moment) but what does that have to do with Jeff or ELO?? My quest for the perfect ELO-related moniker continues. Me thinks I overthink..LOLOL

ok! found this version, it's as good as any..

Confucius sat outside of the gates of the city, watching visitors arrive. One visitor approached the old man and greeted him with a question:"Old man, tell me something. What sort of people will I meet in this city?"

Confucius reflected on this for a moment, then asked the traveler, "What sort of people did you meet in the last city you visited?"

"God, that whole city was miserable. The people were rude, and they were mean to strangers, and nobody did anything to make me feel welcome. I'm telling you, people from that city are just plain rotten."

Confucius shook his head sadly at this tale, and with a heavy heart informed the visitor: "I'm sorry to say this, but that's the same kind of people you'll meet in this city, too."

Hours passed, and Confucius continued to sit outside of the city gates. Another visitor approached him.

"Pardon me, sir, I'm sorry to bother you, but can I ask you a question? Would you mind telling me what sort of people will I meet in this city?"

Confucius asked the second traveler, "What sort of people did you meet in the last city you visited?"

"Oh, that city was wonderful...I hated to leave. The people were so generous, and they were kind to everyone, even strangers, and everyone went out of their way to make me feel welcome. The people from that city were wonderful."

Confucius nodded happily as he heard these words, then told the visitor with a smile: "Then that's the same kind of people you'll meet in this city, too."

One last thing, just so's ya know: I haven't travelled much, really, but anywhere I have gone on this Great Blue Ship ;) I've been met by wonderful people...and just as "Maxine" does in the Wilburys song, I never went through there again. Maybe that's why I'm always dreaming of travelling.

I wish you the best of everything, Master Porter :)

Not a whole lot of anything going on with myself, except that my Christmas was semi-ruined by a case of laryngitis. I couldn't do the one thing that I love doing more than anything at that time of year, which is to sing along with some of my favourite holiday tunes. I ended up settling for making some hand knit jackets for my two dogs & then using a water pistol to keep one of my cats out of the tree & away from other decorations that we have hanging around. Oddly enough, the best part was when my mum & I started making the pies that we usually make to serve with dinner. The second worst thing is that it's been cold enough here that we can't take the dogs & the younger cat outside for their walks of a morning.
